Queens Park 3-1 Eastvale

Scottish Cup Quarter Final

Eastvale’s Scottish cup journey ended on Saturday in Glasgow at the hands of senior side Queens Park’s under-19’s with a 3-1 defeat.
The home side were quickly out of the blocks and their professional coaching soon became evident as they were very competent in possession and moved about the pitch at ease. It took Vale 10 minutes to settle, during which time Gardner dealt with 2 shots from the edge of the box. Gradually Vale began to settle and in 20 minutes took the lead when Laing’s free-kick was touched on by Seretano and Henderson volleyed home from 15 yards.
Queens Park almost equalised straight away but Gardner made a superb save low at his near post. Vale were coming under real pressure and Gardner made another couple of regulation saves before misjudging a long ball on the wind and touching it behind for a corner.
Just before half time, Vale had another scare when Queens Park forced a corner after a last gasp tackle by Kennedy. The resulting corner saw a header cleared off the line by McLeod.
Half time came and Vale were grateful for the break and the chance to reorganise. Henderson was replaced by Syme due to a back injury and within 2 minutes of the restart, Kennedy was replaced by Blyth after succumbing to a knee injury picked up in the first half.
Queens Park were again stretching Vale with their quickness and use of the ball. Craig Lamont made a couple of fine blocks in the Vale box but the equaliser was only delayed. 15 minutes into the second half a corner from the right was headed home by the Queens Park centre half.
Vale were unable to get any decent possession of the ball and Queens Park continued to press forward. 10 minutes later they took the lead when cross from the left was fumbled by Gardner and the centre forward poked home the ball.
Vale had to chase the game now and pushed 4 men up front, risking the counter attack, to try and get the equaliser. This almost paid off immediately as a McLeod long throw was flicked on to Seretano. His snap shot was dropped by the keeper and Douglas was waiting to tap the ball into the net, but a Queens Park defender made a superb block on the line. Seretano then had a good strike which went narrowly over, Douglas almost latched onto a long ball which the centre half misjudged but couldn’t quite stretch out a leg to get it under control.
All the time Vale were pushing forward, Queens Park looked very dangerous on the break and in the last minute their centre forward scored his second from close range after their winger had broken down the left to square to him inside the 6 yard box.

Strathmiglo 4-0 Eastvale

League Cup Round 1

Eastvale’s euphoria at reaching the Quarter Final of the Scottish Cup came to a crashing halt on Saturday as they suffered a heavy defeat in the League Cup first round at Strathmiglo.
Vale were behind in the first minute when a long through ball caught out the defence and McDougall tripped the centre forward in the box as he tried to make up ground. Gardner’s first touch of the game was picking the ball out of his net. The second goal came from Strath’s second attack when a free kick from the right was headed goalward. Gardner managed to touch the header onto the post but the rebound was bundled in.
The usually sound Vale defence was looking very nervous. The early goals were forcing Vale to take risks to get back into the game. This was playing into Strath’s hands as their pacey front men were causing problems. Vale were getting some joy down their left with Kennedy, McLeod & Thomson getting behind the home defence, but the final ball into the box always seemed to find a defender.
Strath’s third goal came after 30 minutes when another long ball over the defence saw Martin’s clearance hit the Strath forward and ricochet perfectly for him to run through on goal and lob Gardner.
This goal knocked all of the stuffing out of Vale’s legs and a fourth goal came before half time when another free kick from the right was misjudged by Gardner and headed home from 10 yards.
Harsh words were said in the dressing room at half time and Vale did perform slightly better in the second half. Douglas in particular was driving forward from Midfield, but again the Strath defence looked comfortable. The last 30 minutes were fairly uneventful with Strath defending comfortably and Vale seemingly playing with next week’ Quarter Final tie in mind.
The Quarter Final sees Vale travel to Glasgow to play Queens Park. The team bus is leaving the Windygates Hotel on Saturday at 11.00am. The committee invite any supporters wanting to travel to use the bus, in appreciation of the great support received in previous ties.

Sat 15th March 2008

Rosyth Civil Service 2-2 aet (4-5 pens) Eastvale

Scottish Cup 7th Replay

Eastvale took another step toward Hampden on Saturday with a thrilling penalty shoot out win at Rosyth in the 7th Round Replay.
Vale had been decimated by call offs prior to kick off, with 9 men missing due to illness & unavailability. Vale legend John Murrie was called out of retirement to bolster the numbers and goalkeeper Kinnear was entrusted with a right midfield berth.
Vale started brightly and saw a header cleared off the line inside the first 5 minutes and the home keeper made a fine save from Thomson. Rosyth began to come into the game and started to force Eastvale onto the retreat. Gardner made a fine block from an angled shot. Rosyth continued to press forward, but no clear-cut chances were being created. On the stroke of half time Vale almost took the lead when McLeod’s long throw into the box fell to Allan who couldn’t direct his snap shot on target.
The second half started with Vale having the advantage of the breeze. It was Rosyth who made the better start and Gardner was called into action making a couple of regulation saves.
The game sprung into life after 65 minutes when Rosyth striker Scarborough fell over in the box and was awarded a penalty. As he and Kinnear were discussion the validity of the penalty award, his striking partner threw the ball at the back of Kinnear’s head and was sent off. Scarborough stroked the penalty home with ease to put the home side ahead.
Vale struck back immediately when Thomson’s cross was headed out to Kinnear. He volleyed the ball back to McLeod, who jinked inside his marker and beat the keeper at his near post.
The final 20 minutes were end to end as both teams tried to win the game in normal time. Both keepers made good saves to keep the scoreline level
Extra time started with Vale introducing Murrie into the action after Douglas took a kick to the knee. Almost immediately Henderson’s pass saw McLeod through one on one with the Rosyth keeper, but his shot was saved and drifted agonisingly past the post. Vale were made to pay for this miss when a cross into the box was missed and Scarborough finished.
Vale were now chasing the game for the equaliser and taking risks at the back. Scarborough had another chance to finish the tie, but Gardner forced him wide and his shot hit the post.
The final 15 minutes saw Vale press forward, but a combination of good defending and tired Eastvale legs saw chances limited. Beaumont had a shot well saved and Henderson thought he had been brought down for a penalty. Vale were throwing players forward and leaving more gaps at the back. Some poor finishing from Rosyth let Vale off the hook a couple of times.
As the clock reached 120 minutes, a McLeod throw in was cleared for a corner. Gardner ventured forward from his goal and McLeod’s corner found him 6 yards out to head home the equaliser. There was no time to restart the game and penalties were required.
Both sides scored their first 4 penalties, Laing, McLeod, Martin & Beaumont scoring for Eastvale. Gardner saved Rosyth’s 5th kick and proceeded to step forward to take what Vale hoped would be the winning kick. Unfortunately, his effort went past the post. He did make amends with a superb save from Rosyth’s 6th kick. Ross McDougall strode forward and smashed his kick straight down the middle to send Vale into the Quarter Finals and cue scenes of jubilation from the players, committee & supporters.

Sat 1st March 2008

Eastvale 0-0 Rosyth Civil Service

Scottish Cup Round 7

Eastvale entertained Rosyth Civil Service at Greig Park on Saturday in the Scottish Cup 7th round tie. Conditions were once again tricky with a strong wind blowing across the pitch.
The game started evenly with both sides getting used to the conditions. Vale had the first chance when McLeod’s corner fizzed across the 6-yard box with no takers. A couple of minutes later another cross from McLeod was just out of reach of Craig Lamont at the back post. Henderson made good progress down the left and his crossed held up in the wind and just missed Douglas before dropping into the keeper’s hands.
Rosyth had a chance when a high free kick deceived Gardener in the wind, but Vale had enough bodies back to clear the danger.
Vale suffered a huge blow after 25 minutes when they had Craig Lamont sent off for 2 yellow cards. The final chance of the first half fell to Thomson who slid in at the back post after Douglas flicked on a long throw. Unfortunately, the flick was just out of reach and the ball went past the post.
A half time reshuffle saw a change in formation for Vale, but no change in their approach as they continued to make chances. Henderson forced the Rosyth keeper into a fine save at his near post and McLeod’s wind assisted free-kick required touching over.
Rosyth were beginning to make their man advantage pay and created a couple of good chances. Firstly, Gardner forced the striker wide to allow the Vale cover to block and secondly a through ball was cut back but the shot went well over.
With 10 minutes to go Vale thought they had won the tie, but Douglas’ header was brilliantly saved and a couple of minutes later, Henderson had a shot saved. The rebound fell to McLeod whose shot was blocked on the line. Another couple of Vale players had swings at the loose ball, but it was forced wide.
The replay will be a Cavil’s ground in Rosyth next Saturday.

Sat 23rd Feb 2008

Star Hearts 1-1 Eastvale

Glendale Plastics League

Eastvale travelled the short distance to Star on Saturday for a league game at Treaton Park. Underfoot conditions were heavy and a gale force wind meant the game would never be a classic.
Vale were asked to play down the hill in the first half, but both teams were struggling to keep the ball on the pitch and out of the trees at the side of the park, such was the ferocity of the wind. The first chance of the game fell to the visitors, but Allan shot narrowly wide.
The opening goal was scored by Eastvale after 25 minutes when a cross from McLeod was cleared only to Hill who coolly volleyed home from 15 yards.
Craig Lamont was next to threaten when his wind assisted 40-yard strike forced the keeper to touch over.
Vale were reduced to 10 men after 30 minutes when a tangle of legs in the midfield saw Gary Lamont adjudged to have retaliated and was sent off.
Just before half time, Gardner was forced to block at the Star strikers feet after a free kick was flighted over the Vale back line.
The second half saw Vale play up the hill, against the ever-strengthening wind with a man disadvantage. It was no surprise that Star were forcing the play. A combination of good defending and mother nature meant that Star were not creating any real chances other than long-range shots which Gardner was dealing with comfortably.
The strength of the wind was shown when a Star corner kick was blown back to the kicker for a throw in.
With 15 minutes left, Star equalised when corner was volleyed home. The siege on the Vale goal continued and Star struck the bar with 5 minutes left from a 30-yard strike.
The final whistle came with the game finishing level. Next week Vale hope that the weather is a bit more forgiving for their 7th round Scottish Cup-tie at home to Rosyth Civil Service. Kick off at Grieg Park is 2.00pm.

Sat 16th Feb 2008

Eastvale 2-0 Glasgow Harp

Scottish Cup 6th Round Replay

A large crowd were at Greig Park on Saturday to see the 6th round replay between Eastvale and Glasgow Harp.
Vale were keen not to let last weeks hard work go to waste and immediately forced Harp onto the back foot. Almost constant pressure saw Vale take the lead within 5 minutes as Lamont & McLeod saw efforts blocked before Thomson struck home.
The visitors tried to hit back but were forced into long-range efforts which failed to trouble Gardner.
Good work from Allan and Douglas saw Henderson through but the keeper made a fine save at his near post.
Vale were still dominating but received a fright after 30 minutes when some slack defending allowed a cross into the box. Fortunately the looping header struck the top of the bar before going over.
Harp’s hopes suffered a setback before half time when their left-winger received 2 yellow cards within 2 minutes for fouls on Marshall, resulting in his dismissal.
Vale began the second half well, keeping good possession and using the extra man advantage. Good attacking opportunities were being created as Harp tried to press forward for the equaliser, however the final pass or cross never seemed to find a Vale foot. This was beginning to cause some nervousness in the crowd, but Thomson calmed those nerves with 20 minutes to go when he fired into the top corner after a good dummy from Henderson.
The visitors composure went at this point and several poor challenges were made. Fortunately no injuries were received and the referee was very lenient in allowing Harp to remain at 10 men.
They did manage one final chance inside the last 5 minutes when a near post header was tipped onto the bar by Gardner.
The final whistle saw Vale into the last 16 for the third time in 6 years and Sunday’s draw saw them receive a home tie against fellow Kingdom Caledonian side Rosyth Civil Service.

Sat 9th Feb 2008

Eastvale 0-0 Glasgow Harp

Scottish Cup Round 6

Eastvale travelled to Bishopbriggs to face the much-fancied Glasgow Harp in the 6th round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday.
The pitch had been made heavy by heavy rain, but the large playing area allowed both sides space to get the ball down and knock the ball about.
The initial period had both teams feeling each other out, mainly in midfield. Gradually, Eastvale got into their stride and began to press their hosts into hurrying possession. This tactic worked as Vale forced a series of corners, with Kennedy swinging them into the 6-yard box, which Harp struggled to clear.
Harps first chance came after 20 minutes when a driven cross just evaded the centre forward with the goal at his mercy.
At the other end, good work from Sartorello and Allan created a chance for Douglas who shot narrowly over from just inside the box.
Thomson was next to threaten, forcing a good save from the home keeper.
Just before half time Gardner made a brave save at the feet of the Harp centre forward.
The second half started with Harp trying to take the initiative. They forced a couple of free kicks which Gardner dealt with comfortably.
Vale’s next chance came from Kennedy whose 40-yard free-kick was touched over the bar as it arrowed toward the top corner.
The heavy pitch was beginning to take its toll as the game became stretched and the home side looking for a winner. A deep cross was headed goalward, but Gardner was there to make a comfortable save.
Inside the last five minutes Henderson broke through from midfield and beat 3 defenders before his shot was well saved by the home keeper.
The game ended at 0-0 with both sides disappointed not to have won the game. The replay is this Saturday at Greig Park with a 1.30 kick-off.

2nd Febuary 2008

Eastvale 3-1 Dalgety Bay

Scottish Cup round 5

Eastvale’s weather enforced winter shutdown came to an end on Saturday with a 5th round Scottish cup-tie at home to Dalgety Bay.
The long lay-off meant the home side were rusty in the early period and it took a full 15 minutes for them to get into the game, during which time Gardner in the home goal had been tested with a couple of long range shots.
Vale’s first chance fell to Allan whose effort was ruled out for handball. Vale had the ball in the net a second time when Syme’s header fell to Sartorello, but he was given offside.
The break through came after 25 minutes when a Syme corner was flicked on at the near post for Thomson to head home. Vale quickly doubled their lead when Marshall’s cross was forced in by Thomson at the back post.
Sartorello was next to threaten but he shot narrowly over before forcing the Dalgety Bay keeper into a fine save.
Dalgety Bay were being pinned back but a lapse in concentration in the home defence allowed a Dalgety Bay midfielder to run through and square the ball for a tap in goal.
Vale quickly responded and Thomson had a chance for his hat-trick but headed narrowly wide before Syme rose majestically to crash a header off the bar.
The second half continued to be one-way traffic with Gardner in the home goal only needing to concentrate on keeping warm. It was a diffirent story at the other end with the veteran Dalgety Bay keeper working overtime as Vale cut through the visitors almost at will. Henderson was introduced and immediately shot narrowly wide. Allan was denied by the keeper before Thomson was a shot well saved at the near post. Syme’s 25 yard strike was heading for the top corner but the keeper pulled off a wonder save before blocking Allan’s rebound. Further outstanding saves were made from Henderson, Allan & Douglas.
With 10 minutes to go the inevitable third goal came when Hill tapped home from Henderson’s cross and Quigley almost got the fourth but the ball bobbled over his foot with the goal at his mercy.
In the end a convincing win for the home side who travel to Bishopbriggs next week for a 6th round tie with Glasgow Harp. The committee wish to thank the large support who came to the game in very cold conditions on Saturday and would like to invite anyone who wishes to see next round tie to come on the team coach, which will be leaving the Windygates hotel at 11.30 next Saturday.

The game will be played next week at Windygates, 2pm kick off.

1st December 2007

Scotia Athletic 2-4 Eastvale

Scottish Cup Round 4

Eastvale travelled to Hamilton on Saturday to play Scotia Athletic in the Scottish cup 4th round. The side was boosted by the return of Martin, Allan, Douglas & Lamont from last weeks shock defeat in the Fife cup.
Vale were quickly off the mark when Douglas tapped home after Martin’s header had been well saved by the keeper. They continued to attack and almost doubled the lead when Henderson’s 20-yard shot was turned over the bar by the home keeper.
This save only delayed the second goal, which came after 20 minutes when McLeod curled a 30-yard free kick into the bottom corner. This was his last act of the game as he was forced off with a rib injury, being replaced by Quigley.
Scotia were trying to get back into the game and were awarded a lifeline when Martin committed a foul outside the box, only for the ref to deem it a penalty. The kick was confidently struck past Kinnear into the bottom corner.
This setback did not affect Vale and their 2-goal lead was re-established almost immediately. Martin fed Allan and his flick through the defence set Douglas away and he slotted past the advancing keeper.
The second half started with Allan going close from a corner. As the half wore on, Vale seemed content to sit back and absorb pressure, relying on the counter attack. This tactic seemed to be working, but Scotia forced a second goal from a corner with 15 minutes left.
The home side continued to press forward, without creating any clear-cut chances. Sartorello forced the home keeper into another fine save before Martin tied up the win with a close range finish with 5 minutes left.

Scotia 2-4 Eastvale

24th November 2007

Eastvale 1-2 Windygates

Fife Cup Round 2

Greig Park was the venue for the derby between Eastvale and Windygates on Saturday in the second round of the Fife cup.
The fife league side started brightly and were not giving Eastvale any time on the ball. It took 20 minutes for the game to settle down and Vale created the first chance when a Hill cross was headed straight at the keeper by Henderson. McLeod was next to test the Windygates keeper, but his free-kick was poorly struck.
Just before half time the deadlock was broken. A through ball from Windygates saw their striker through on goal. His shot was heading wide before it was deflected by McDougall, wrong footing Kinnear, and trickling into the bottom corner.
The second half saw Vale look to get back on level terms and had a golden opportunity within 2 minutes as Henderson was held in the box. The resultant penalty was put past the post by Sartorello. Henderson almost equalised minutes later when his 20-yard shot grazed the outside of the post.
Windygates were content to play on the break and one of these breaks saw Kennedy commit a foul. The ref deemed that he was the last man and was sent off. The loss of a man for the fourth game in five weeks did not deter Eastvale and the continued to press forward. The equaliser came with 15 minutes left as Sarterello’s cross was headed home by Henderson.
Quigley almost won it for Eastvale as a long throw fell to him 10 yards out, but his volley was just too high.
There was a sting in the tail as the match looked to be heading for extra time when a Windygates corner was not cleared and the ball was bundled over the line with only a minute to go.
Eastvale had one final chance but Syme’s 25 yard free kick hit the outside of the post with the Windygates keeper beaten.
Vale this week look to bounce back with an away tie in Motherwell against Scotia Athletic in the Scottish Cup third round.

17th November 2007

Eastvale 5-3 aet Haldane United

Scottish Cup Round 3 Replay

Eastvale had their Scottish Cup second round replay on Saturday at home after grinding out a draw in Balloch the previous week. The home side were immediately on the offensive and took the lead after 2 minutes when a McLeod 25-yard free-kick went under the keeper. Vale continued to press and almost doubled the lead when a McLeod centre has headed onto the top of the bar by Henderson.
Vale continued to push forward as the visitors could not cope with the pace of the play but suffered a setback in 20 minutes when a ball into the box was not properly cleared, allowing Haldane to equalise from the first time in the Eastvale box.
The pressure continued on the visitors goal as a succession of corners & throw-ins were causing havoc in the Haldane goal; Allan, Thomson & Henderson all coming close. With the last kick of the first half Sartorello scored from 20 yards as he had done last week the put Vale 2-1 up.
Sartorello had a chance straight from Kick-Off of the second half to tie the game up but the visitors keeper made a fine save.
Eastvale then suffered a couple of injury blows with McLeod & Allan being replaced by Hill & Quigley. Before the subs had a chance to settle into the pace of the game, Haldane equalised when a right wing cross was forced home off the underside of the bar.
The game was now in the balance and Vale suffered another blow when Aird was sent off for his second yellow card with 15 minutes remaining. Haldane had their chance to win the tie with 5 minutes left but Kinnear made a fine save at the strikers feet.
Extra time started with Kinnear making another excellent save and almost straight from the save, the ball went down the left and was passed to Henderson. He played a delightful through ball to Sartorello who finished clinically passed the keeper.
This gave the home side something to hold onto and were defending comfortably when the Haldane left winger was put through. Kinnear forced him wide and Hill made a superb block as the striker was about to roll the ball into the empty net. Kinnear was then able to grab the rebound. Just before half-time in extra-time Henderson was fouled in the box for a penalty. One of the Haldane players took exception to the decision and was sent off to even the sides up. Sartorello completed his hat-trick from the spot despite the keeper getting a hand to the shot.
With the sides even and a 2 goal advantage, Vale were now able to knock the ball about to play out time. There was still time for Sartorello to get his fourth & Eastvale’s fifth after a pass from Hill and the visitors to get a last minute consolation as Kinnear spilled a shot and the striker followed up to score.
This week, Vale are again in cup action. This time in the Fife Cup in a local derby with Windygates Amateurs.

10th November 2007

Haldane United 1-1 Eastvale

Scottish Cup Round 3

Eastvale made the long journey to Loch Lomond on Saturday to play Haldane United in the 3rd round of the Scottish cup. An interesting bus journey meant that the kick-off had to be delayed. The home side were quicker off the mark and put Eastvale under pressure, without creating a clear-cut chance.
Eventually the visitors got their legs going and began to get success down the left hand side with Beaumont & McLeod creating good overlaps. The final ball into the box never seemed to find its intended target.
Vale had the first shot on target after 30 minutes when Allan forced the keeper into a good save.
Haldane had the next chance but the shot from 30 yards was straight at Kinnear.
A minute before half time, the home side took the lead when the left-winger got behind the defence and his cut back was tapped home.
Straight from the kick off, Eastvale equalised when Ronato fired into the top corner from 20 yards.
At the break, Vale brought Hill on to replace Quigley on the right side. The home side now had the breeze at their back and began to knock the ball long up to their 2 big strikers. Both MacDougall and Lamont were coping with this well and Vale were content to play on the break. Lamont made a fine block on the penalty spot after an hour as the home centre forward broke through on goal.
The game seemed to be heading for a draw, however with 5 minutes to go Kinnear made a fantastic save, touching a 12-yard shot onto the underside of the bar. A minute later he again made a diving save as the home striker slid in. Vale almost snatched the winner in the last minute as sub Henderson had his shot well saved by the keeper.
The replay takes place this coming Saturday at Greig Park with a 1.30 kick-off.

20th October 2007

Pittenweem 0-2 Eastvale

Fife Cup Round 1

Eastvale travelled along the coast to Pittenweem on Saturday in a first round Fife cup-tie. They started brightly and forced the home side on the defensive early on. Douglas had the best of the early chances when he shot narrowly wide. Pittenweem were forced to play on the break and forced Kinnear into a couple of smart saves.
The longer the half was going, the more frustrated Vale became as they could not force a way through the Pittenweem back line. Quigley headed wide from a corner and Beaumont made the home keeper touch a long range shot over the bar.
The second half saw a more purposeful Eastvale side. Quigley was beginning to get some joy down the right side. From one of his crosses, the keeper fumbled but Douglas couldn’t cut the ball back from the tight angle.
The breakthrough came after an hour when Mike Gardiner slid a ball through to Ronato who was felled in the box. He dusted himself down to slot home the spot kick.
The pressure was now almost relentless. Ronato came close with a free kick and Douglas hit the bar before Thomson nipped in front of the keeper and scored the second goal. Quigley almost scored the third as he rounded the keeper, but his effort was cleared off the line. A couple of minutes later, he was through again, this time squaring to Mike Gardiner who saw his shot blocked. The final chance fell to Aird who saw two shots blocked, before the third narrowly went over the bar.

6th October 2007

Eastvale 5-1 Lomond Victoria

Scottish Cup Round 1

Eastvale were at home in the first round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday as they hosted Lomond Vics.
Vale were first to threaten when Martin headed wide from a corner. Another headed chance was missed by Lamont, again from a corner.
It was one-way traffic as Vale pushed the visitors back. McLeod had the next chance but shot wide. Another chance was missed as McLeod’s in swinging corner was missed by everyone and McDougall couldn’t quite reach it at the back post.
It was only a matter of time before Vale scored and the deadlock was broken after half an hour as McLeod’s free kick was headed in at the back post by McDowell. The second followed shortly after as Lamont headed home from another corner.
The second half started with the home side attacking again, but suffered a set back in 50 minutes when Martin was sent off after a tussle with a Vics Striker. This gave the visitors a lift and they tried to force home their man advantage. Eastvale did not let this affect them and continued to press forward and further chances were being created almost at will. The third goal came from another corner as McDougall volleyed home at the back post.
Lomond were still trying to come forward to gain a consolation goal and Kinnear was forced to make a good save with a brave save at the strikers feet from the rebound.
This was Lomond’s final chance as the home side continued to press forward. Allan scored the fourth in 80 minutes with a smart header. Beaumont & McLeod forced the Vics keeper into a couple of fine saves and Allan finished the match off with another headed goal.
This Saturday sees the Second Round of the Scottish cup with Vale at home to Fallin amateurs.

Sat 29th September 2007

Eastvale 3-1 Star Hearts

Glendale Plastics League

Eastvale were at home to Star Hearts on Saturday looking to bounce back from last week’s loss to Rosyth. They got off to the perfect start when Lamont volleyed home from a Syme corner in the third minute.
The early setback did not deter the visitors who forced Vale onto the back foot. The defence remained solid, forcing Star into long-range efforts which didn’t trouble Kinnear in the home goal.
Gradually, Eastvale began to get into their stride, with Hill & Quigley causing trouble down the right. From one of these raids, Thomson just failed to connect with a diving header. The next chance fell to Allan whose shot was blocked. Syme then stung the hands of the keeper with a 25-yard drive.
Eastvale doubled their lead just before half-time when a Quigley header a handled on the goal-line. Hill converted the penalty and the offending Star defender was sent off.
Star began the Second half strongly, defying their disadvantage by forcing Eastvale back. The referee soon evened up the sides when McDougall was sent off for two tackles within the space of 5 minutes. This gave the visitors a huge boost and soon halved the lead when a defensive error allowed a tap-in. Five minutes later, Star hit the post from a similar defensive lapse.
This shock seemed to wake Eastvale from their slumber. A long ball down the left saw Gardner cut the ball back to Allan whose shot was blocked, but looped up in the air for Hill to force home a header at the back post.
The remainder of the match saw Star press forward, without troubling the home side and several chances were created on the break, with Gardner and Quigley both coming close to adding a fourth.
This week sees Eastvale begin the long road to Hampden with a home tie against Lomond Vics.

Sat 22nd September 2007

Rosyth Civil Service 5-3 Eastvale

Glendale Plastics League

Eastvale were away for the third week in a row as they visited champions Rosyth. Both teams attacked from the off and the game was very fast & open. Chances were made & missed at both ends. Rosyth took the lead after 20 minutes when a cross shot was touched in by the Civil forward who was standing almost on the goal line a blatantly offside position.
The second goal followed shortly after via another refereeing mistake; Right Back Quigley slid in to the tackle, forcing the Civil winger to jump over him before chasing the ball, which had run wide. This was deemed a penalty by the ref, despite no appeal from either the players or the sideline. The next 10 minutes saw a shell-shocked Eastvale concede another 2 goals. Just before half time, a lifeline was grabbed when a poor defensive clearance fell to Syme who lobbed the keeper from 35 yards.
Eastvale knew that a huge performance was required to get anything out of the game. Allan was introduced up front and he immediately began to trouble the home defence. As in the first half, Eastvale were causing havoc from all set pieces. From a corner kick, Allan headed home.
Over the next 15 minutes, Eastvale squandered 5 clear headed chances, all missing the target before Aird nutmegged the full back and sent over the perfect cross to McLeod, who shot home at the back post. The remaining 15 minutes was one-way traffic as Vale tried to force the equaliser. Thomson was brought down in the box but no penalty was given. With 2 minutes remaining, the home keeper & defender both went for the same ball and missed it, allowing Gardiner to run through. The pace on the ball forced him wide and as he tried to cut the ball back to Allan for a tap in, he couldn’t quite reach the ball and could only hit the outside off the post from almost on the goal line.
From the resultant goal kick, Eastvale were caught out at the back and Rosyth made it 5-3. A terrific fight back which just fell short. Next week Vale are at home to Star Hearts.

Bowhill Rovers 2-3 Eastvale

Glendale Plastics League

Eastvale travelled to Cardenden on Saturday looking to bounce back from the previous weeks heavy defeat at Kettle. They made the brighter start and looked dangerous, particularly down the right hand side where new signing Gardiner was working well with Thomson & Allan. The home keeper made a couple of good saves before vale took the lead when a Gardiner cross was headed in by McLeod.
Eastvale continued to press and Bowhill were forced to play on the counter attack. From one of these attacks, a back post header was saved by Gardner in the goals and the rebound was blocked by Syme.
Eastvale were still attacking well, but the home side pulled themselves level when a throw in from eastvale was not properly cleared and the centre forward slotted past Gardner.
This seemed to knock Vale back and Bowhill were the better side up until half time. They also started the second half stronger and took the lead 15 minutes after the break when a long ball caught out the Vale back line and the midfield runner rounded Gardner to finish well.
This set back seemed to be the shock that Vale needed to kick start their game and they began to force the home side back. With 20 minutes remaining a long clearance from gardner was touched on by Kinnear, then Mcleod to allow Allan to round the keeper and equalise. Only one team was now going to win the game and Vale duly took the lead with 10 minutes to go when a right wing cross by Martin was headed home by Allan.
Bowhill were now forced to chase the game, But Vale coped easily at the back and were picking off Bowhill on the counter attack. Further chances were created but Beaumont, McLeod and Allan all were close.
Next week Eastvale travel to defending league champs Rosyth Civil Service.

Eastvale 6-0 Balgonie Scotia

Glendale Plastics League

Eastvale entertained Balgonie on Saturday, looking to get back on track after Tuesday nights loss to Lumphinnans.
Vale were still below strength due to injury and work commitments, but started brightly and were rewarded with the opening goal in 10 minutes. A long throw from Hill was missed by everyone except Allan at the back post who headed in. The second goal shortly followed from another set piece. Martin headed Beaumonts corner powerfully past the keeper.
It was one-way traffic toward the Scotia net. Every set piece looked like creating a goal and it was no surprise when Allan notched his second with a smart finish from a poor defensive clearance.
The second half started with the home side continuing to attack. It took 20 minutes for the fourth goal to come when the keeper missed Hills corner and Thomson headed into the empty net.
The fifth goal came 10 minutes from time when the veteran Syme, who had come on as substitute for Allan, scored a 25-yard free kick. The scoring was completed in the last minute when Aird headed home another Syme free kick.

Eastvale 1-2 Lumphinnans Utd

Glendale Plastics League

Vale 1-2 Ylum.........almost perfect conditions last night, Vale struggling to get a team on the park with Paul Taylor, Scone & Cas part of back 4 , still Vale started strongly, hit the post early doors, passing it about but unable to obtain the breakthrough, Ylum dangerous on the break......cross from Blackie on the right, Vale keeper hesitated & forward nipped in before defender to open the scoring - 1-0 Ylum, shortly afterwards corner on the left powerfully headed into net by Ylum No.10, keeper no chance, good goal, but 2-0 Ylum. Vale pulled 1 back early in 2nd half with a Beaumont header from a long throw by Zico & had the majority of play without creating too much, a header cleared off the line by Ylum defender springs to mind as best chance for equaliser, Ylum defended well & were quick to launch counter attacks & deserved their victory.

Burntisland Shipyard 2-3 Eastvale

Glendale Plastics League

Eastvale travelled to Burntisland on Saturday having recorded wins in their first 2 league games. They were asked to play against the stiff breeze in the first half. The initial period was scrappy as both teams struggled with the conditions. Vale opened the scoring after 10 minutes when a McLeod long throw was cleared to the edge of the box where Stuart Hill struck a perfect left foot volley into the top corner from 20 yards.
Burntisland quickly retaliated and forced Eastvale onto the back foot. The defence was coping comfortably with anything the home side threw at them. Kinnear in the goal made a couple of regulation saves and the half time whistle saw Vale go in one up.
The elements were now with Eastvale and it was their turn to pressurise the home defence. A couple of dangerous crosses were put into the box but no-one could get on the end of them to double the lead. Burntisland were presented with a great chance to equalise after an hour when the referee awarded a penalty for an alleged shirt pull. Kinnear made a fine save, but the rebound fell kindly to the home side and the ball was eventually forced over the line.
Eastvale regained the lead within 5 minutes as a corner from the left was driven in, dummied by Allan at the front post and knocked in at the back post by Martin.
The next 10 minutes saw Eastvale play some fine football, with the final ball not quite good enough to create a good chance. Eventually a poor clearance from the home keeper was picked up in midfield and Allan ran through to lob the keeper to make the lead 3-1.
With 10 minutes remaining and Vale looking comfortable, the ref awarded another penalty for another alleged shirt pull. This time it was scored at the first attempt. The last 10 minutes saw the Shipyard pressing for an equaliser. A series of free kicks were awarded, but nothing came of any of them, and the game finished with a Henderson goal from a McLeod cross being ruled out for offside.

Goal Scorers. P.Martin 1, Stu Hill 1, J.Allan 1.

Eastvale 2-0 Kirkland

Glendale Plastics League

Eastvale hosted local rivals Kirkland in a well supported league derby match. The game started fast and it was Eastvale with the early lead. Then a clash of heads with Gardner and Kirklands Striker forced the keeper to call it a day. The game was controlled for the best part by Eastvale with the home team extending their lead int the second half.

Fair City 3-6 Eastvale

Glendale Plastics League

Fair City 3-6 Eastvale. 6-1 up with 15 left to play. Ecky Douglas immobile through injury for whole second half. Unfortunately no subs available due to certain circumstances. Eastvale 3-0 up at half time and playing some real good stuff. 4-0 early into second half then Fair City awarded a very very soft penalty which Gardner in the Eastvale goal was unlucky not to stop. Eastvale battled on and made it 6-1 in rapid succession. Last 15 disappointing from our point of view but all thing considered a good result.

Goal Scorers. Tucker Hat trick, MacDougall 1, Stu Hill 1, Zico 1.

Paul up for a header
